Reported by ANI, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staf Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa supported Hafiz Saeed, chief of Jamaat Ud Dawah and alleged mastermind of Mumbai terror attack in 2008. Qamar Javed Bajwa supported Hafiz Saeed’s stance over Kashmir conflict.

According to reports, in Senate Committee ‘in-camera session’ in Islamabad, Gen Bajwa said that Hafiz Saeed is a person who can play an ‘active role’ to resolve the Kashmir conflict between India and Pakistan. While speaking on counter-terrorism operations and foreign policy, he said that just like any Pakistani, Hafiz Saeed can also take up the Kashmir cause. Former President of Pakistan and military dictator Pervez Musharraf has same thoughts about Saeed when he openly said that Lashkar-e-Taiba (A militant wing of JuD) and Jamaat Ud Dawah (JuD) are patriots and Pakistan can work with them for the betterment of safety and security of Pakistan.

Hafiz Saeed is the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and chief of JuD, he has a USD 10 million bounty on his head and declared as a ‘terrorist’ by united nations. In June 2014 his organization JuD was declared as a foreign terrorist organization by US. Now after the statement of Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, India has serious concerns about Hafiz Saeed and his activities. He was house arrested in Pakistan from January 2017 and just released this November. The United States has also serious reservations on Pakistan’s decision to release Hafiz Saeed and US demanded to re-arrest Saeed.

Pakistan’s viewpoint is totally different on this issue as the Supreme Court of Pakistan said in a verdict about Saeed that there is no proof of his involvement in Mumbai terror attack and in the decision, SC said that India failed to provide any solid evidence about the involvement of Hafiz Saeed in the planning of Mumbai terror attack. Furthermore, the government of Pakistan and the SC believes that Hafiz Saeed is not linked to LeT and he is not involved in terrorist activities in Pakistan. Further, they believe that Saeed’s JuD is a social welfare organization and they have launched many charity projects in Karachi and other areas of Pakistan.

In Pakistan, Jamaat Ud Dawaah worked hard to help out people during the earthquake of 2005 and 2015 and in many other flooded areas during 2014 and other occasions.

On the other hand, United States has threatened Pakistan that Pakistan’s stance about Hafiz Saeed can be harmful to the bilateral relationship. Therefore US and India both want Pakistan to re-arrest Hafiz Saeed and charge him over terrorist activities in India.
