iraqi forces launched mission against ISIL

Iraqi Security forces began the second phase of their offensive against militant’s organization named Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Mosul on Tuesday 29th of December by pushing from three sides into eastern districts where the war has been deadlocked for nearly a month.

Since the offensive to capture Mosul began 10 weeks ago where counter-terrorism forces have retaken more than quarter part of the city, the militants’ last main stronghold in Iraq but their progress has been slow and troops on the other side have made little bit progress.

The campaign, the largest ground operation in Iraq since United States led invasion and attack of 2003 that toppled the former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, entered its first important and significant pause earlier this running month for a planned “operational refit”. But on 29th December, more than 5,000 soldiers and troops of Iraqi federal police who has also redeployed from Mosul’s southern outskirt entered more than half dozen southeastern neighborhoods but forces advanced in Karama and al-Quds districts after receiving reinforcement.

Early in the morning, the three fronts began advancing towards the city center so the operation is ongoing today and tomorrow until forces liberate the remaining whole eastern side of city. Lieutenant General Ali Freiji, who was commanding army operations in the north, told Reuters.

So the down of Mosul would possibly spell the end of militant’s ambition to rule over the millions of people in self-styled caliphate but the fighters could still mount a traditional insurgency in the country and inspire attacks on the West. So an officer from elite Interior Ministry unit asked that it was advancing alongside the federal police in Intisar district of Mosul, he further asked that ISIL resisted with machine guns and sniper. But despite of all these obstacles, Iraqi security forces launch second phase of Mosul offensive against ISIL.
