Healthy Food For Students to Get Good Grades

healthy food for students

Studying and knowing the information is critical to passing a test, but if the brain is not well-nourished and ready to help the test-taker recall the information, the test results may not be as good as they could be. Of course, food cannot guarantee a good grade without actually knowing the material, but a healthy snack before a big exam can give students the energy and focus they need to do their absolute best.

Green Tea

Green tea contains what are known as polyphenols. These work to protect the brain and stimulate the production of dopamine. Dopamine is critical to having a positive attitude. Going into a test feeling negative about it can lead to second-guessing, fear and other emotions that can hinder a good score. It is important to be positive and confident and green tea can help with this.

Eggs

Choline is found in eggs and it is necessary for good memory. There have been studies conducted that looked at the link between better memory and increasing choline intake. It is often concluded that more choline equals more memory. A few eggs with the yolk “as the yolk contains the choline “can help students recall what they have learned and studied.

Dark Chocolate

This means dark chocolate that contains at least 75 percent cacao, so a basic candy bar will not do the trick. A good quality dark chocolate contains flavonoids which have potent antioxidant properties. It also contains a natural stimulant. Now, too much of this natural stimulant can make a person jittery or nervous, so be careful with portions. However, eating the right amount can improve energy and focus.

Salmon

Salmon is one of the best fishes a person can eat. It should be wild-caught for the best amount of nutrients. In addition to protein, this fish is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. These acids can help greatly with mood and brain function. If a person cannot eat salmon for whatever reason, walnuts also contain Omega-3 fatty acids.

Acai Berries

These are not easily found fresh at some grocery stores, but they have certainly become popular in the last year. Most people consume them for promised weight loss benefits, but their high antioxidant levels are what will benefit test-takers. In addition to antioxidants, these are also jam-packed with Omega-3 fatty acids. These are another option for those who cannot eat salmon and want these critical fatty acids. So, acai berries will improve brain function as well as mood, making students both confident and fully ready to ace their tests.

Blueberries

Blueberries are known as an all-around superfood. They can be eaten on-the-go and have been shown to help protect the brain. This can lead to some improvement in motor skills and learning capacity. Studies on rats have shown this improvement. Just one cup of this powerful berry can help on test day.

Seeds and Nuts

Seeds and nuts are generally rich in vitamin E. This vitamin is important in lessening cognitive decline. Just an ounce of specific nuts or seeds before a test can improve performance. Some of these include hazelnuts, filberts, cashews, sunflower seeds, flaxseed, walnuts, Brazil nuts, almonds, peanuts, sesame seeds, and certain nut butter. These also contain protein, which can help you in the energy department. This is beneficial if you have a test first thing in the morning, or right at the end of the day when you are ready to just be done.

Pomegranate Juice

Actual pomegranates will work too, but these tend to be difficult to eat, so the juice is best for students. Potent antioxidants are found in this fruit which helps to protect from free radical damage. The brain is most sensitive to this kind of damage. Approximately two ounces on a test day can help to improve brain performance.

Fresh Tea

As long as you brew it yourself, it will work. This does include tea bags. Black tea “either iced or hot “contains caffeine. This can help to enhance memory, mood, and focus. Like dark chocolate, be careful though. Caffeine is a stimulant and can cause jitters and nervousness when you have too much. Try drinking on it throughout the day on a test day so that the caffeine levels are steady and you do not just get a quick jolt.
