Lahore, April 30, 2025 – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has relaunched the much-anticipated laptop distribution scheme, marking its return after an eight-year pause. The initiative, aimed at empowering students with cutting-edge technology, was inaugurated during a vibrant ceremony at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in Lahore, signaling a renewed focus on education and digital literacy across the province.
The revamped Chief Minister’s Laptop Program will distribute 110,000 high-performance 13th-generation Core i7 laptops to deserving students enrolled in public sector colleges, universities, and medical institutions.
For the first time, the scheme extends beyond Punjab, with 5,000 laptops allocated for meritorious students from other provinces, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This expansion underscores the government’s commitment to fostering equal opportunities nationwide.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd at UET, CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized the transformative power of education and technology. “These laptops are not just tools; they are an investment in Pakistan’s future.
Our youth will lead this nation to progress,” she declared, joined by students chanting “Pakistan Zindabad.” The Chief Minister personally handed out laptops and scholarship cheques, engaging warmly with attendees by taking selfies and mingling with the crowd.
The scheme targets students in their first and second years of BS programs, as well as first-year MBBS and BDS students, with eligibility criteria including a Punjab domicile, Pakistani citizenship, and a minimum of 65% marks for BS students or 80% for medical students.
Registration, which began in February 2025, is accessible via the official website (cmlaptophed.punjab.gov.pk), with a deadline for applications set for March 16, 2025.
The program also integrates with the Honhaar Scholarship Scheme, offering 25,000 scholarships to further support academic excellence. A special 32% quota has been reserved for students from South Punjab, ensuring equitable access to resources. The laptops, equipped with 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage, are designed to meet modern academic demands, enabling students to excel in a digital era.
Reflecting on the initiative’s broader impact, Maryam Nawaz stated, “Education and technology are every student’s right. This scheme is about empowering our youth to compete globally and build a stronger Pakistan.” The first phase of distribution, already underway, follows the arrival of the initial laptop shipment in Pakistan, with ceremonies planned across various cities.
The relaunch has garnered widespread praise, with many viewing it as a step toward revitalizing Punjab’s education sector. As the program rolls out, it promises to bridge the digital divide and equip Pakistan’s youth with the tools to shape a brighter future.
