Shakira

She is the only South American musician to ever receive this award, and she is well deserving of it.

SHAKIRA becomes this year’s honoree for the MTV Video Song Award for “Video Vanguard,” which was presented by MTV. This award acknowledges the “profound effect” that a particular musician or music video director has had on the medium of music videos.

The singer will make history by being the first musician from South America to ever win this honor. She continues in the footsteps of numerous iconic musicians, like Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Beatles, Beyoncé, and Madonna, among many others. Nicki Minaj was honored with this award the year before last.

Shakira is scheduled to give a performance at the 2023 Video Music Awards, which will take place on September 12 and be broadcast live from the Prudential Center in New Jersey. This year, she is contending for a total of four prizes, one of which is Musician of the Year.

Additionally, her song “TQG,” which was recorded in cooperation with Karol G, has been nominated for two awards: Best Latin Song and Best Cooperation.

The first time the Colombian icon showed up at the Video Music Awards took place in 2002, as she gave a performance of her breakthrough smash “Objection (Tango).” She along with Alejandro Sanz created history in 2005 by putting on the inaugural Spanish-language song in the show’s annals owing to their hit “La Tortura.” It was performed by the two of them. Her most recent performance at the ceremony came in 2006 when she performed “Hips Don’t Lie” alongside Wyclef Jean.

This year, SZA, Taylor Swift, as well as Doja Cat, are all up for multiple nominations, and the awards show also includes a large number of bands that have never been nominated before. Some of these performers include Metro Boomin, Petras, Fletcher, Rema, Boygenius, Burna Boy, Arya Starr, and Davido.
